This is a wild drink, inspired by Captain Bligh's clever efforts to get his crew to try new and exotic foods, the result of which meant he never had a crewman afflicted by scurvy. A blend of Tasmanian Pepper Berry, Dried Chilli and Szechuan Pepper. None of which are actually of the pepper family. If you are not familiar with Szechuan pepper, it's definitely a crazy experience. The effect it has on the mouth is known as "mala" in Mandarin, which we think is best described as a tingling, electrifying almost numbing sensation. Initially quite juicy, lots of citrus and sweetness, the chilli spice starts to build, but it's not a super hot drink. The insane part is the potency of the Szechuan, which picks up as the medium-mild chilli tones down. It's a drink you'll want to keep on sipping. Also great in cocktails, mixed with juice and in cooking.
