We proudly present our first Cask Strength whisky: Gorgon. Named after the second ship sent to bring the Bounty mutineers to justice (after HMS Pandora had an encounter with a reef), the name, Gorgon, is rich with history. For starters, the ship, Gorgon, was named after the three monstrous sisters in Greek mythology, the most infamous being Medusa. One of the wonderful things about being able to share this whisky with you is that the name Gorgon not only has ties to maritime history, but holds personal significance. Karen's second published book was titled, The Gaze of the Gorgon (2002), and Stephen's first side-hustle was a business called Medusa Cast.
This whisky was years in the making, and much has happened since it was laid to rest in its casks back in 2019. Prior to this, it was matured in three different sherry casks, which were married together into yet another sherry cask before being transferred to one of our own rum casks to help embrace the sweetness it had developed, and help soften the tannins. It has been bottled at full, natural cask strength and with its natural colour.
Every part of creating a finished whisky, once the barley grains arrive, is started and completed by us, by hand, using tried and true methods. We feel the results of our work are well worth the enormous effort, and we hope you agree.
There were 25 out of the 125 bottles total that were boxed for the collector's edition treatment, so this is a very limited release. May you enjoy it.
